INFINEON CAOUGAR MOUNTAIN CJULY 27

Rick Sutton, chief operations officer of the event stated: Last year, we raised our flag with Infineon Technologies’ inaugural event. We have learned a lot, and the 2005 Infineon Technologies Cougar Mountain Classic includes many course and venue design modifications to improve the human-powered sports experience. This event promises to be a fantastic end-of-season experience for runners, mountain bikers, and road cyclists.

Infineon Raceway and Sea Otter Classic LLC will host the three-day event. Infineon Technologies Cougar Mountains Classic is the final festival of summer road, mountain, gravity, racing, and running. It also bookends Montereys renowned Sea Otter Classic cycling season opener.

The Cougar Mountain Classic offers riders the chance to qualify for the NORBA National Championships, which take place in Mammoth Mountain (CA) one week later. It also features a full program for off-road and road cycling racing. The event is listed on both the American Mountain Bike Challenge series (AMBC), and the National Road Calendar (NRC). The event features pro, amateur, and recreational mountain and road cycling events for all skill levels. It also offers a sanctioned, pro- and amateur All American Trail Running Association event, called the 15K Road/Off Road SuperRun.

NEW THIS YEAR
Amazing opportunities are created by downhill and mountaincross tracks. The finish line is visible for 90 percent of the three-minute run. From the starting hut, spectators and athletes will have spectacular views of the Bay Area including the San Francisco skyline. This course is rated the best for spectators by international experts. They are encouraged to bring coolers and deck chairs. A new mountaincross course is located close to Cougar Mountain. It offers a longer and wider run, which allows athletes to use every trick in their arsenal.

A new cross country course for adventure seekers: This course was created in response to riders’ feedback at the 2004 event. It takes competitors through the rolling hills of Lakeville and north into Sonoma County. On a course measuring 8-9 miles long, racers can enjoy riding on 1500 acres of climbs, descents and fire roads.

Pro and Amateur road and mountain biking races: Eight-hour race
Mountain bike endurance cyclists seeking a challenging full-days ride, the Cougar Mountain Classic offers an eight-hour road and mountain bike race for both solo and four-person teams. Road cyclists will take on an eight-hour ride along Infineon Raceways’ 2.52-mile, 12-turn race track. Mountain bikers will battle it out on the scenic cross-country course’s rolling hills. Both events will start simultaneously at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Running event:
The AATRA-sanctioned 15K Road/Off-Road SuperRun takes runners on a 9-10-mile run that starts on Infineon Raceway (4 mi), then moves onto cross-country hills and fire roads, and then onto pristine singletrack (5 miles). Finally, it finishes with a half-mile of asphalt.

Swap Meet: Festival goers can now shop at the Expo’s Cougar Mountain Swap Meet for bargains and souvenir shopping. This is a unique opportunity to purchase high-quality equipment that was used by cycling stars. Many times, athletes will autograph equipment that they sell.
